Towards A World Free of Chemical Weapons

The National Authority of Japan (NAJ) held a commemorative event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the OPCW as well as the entry into force of the CWC on Tuesday, 19 December, 2017.

This event was composed of two parts. In the first part at Aoyama Gakuin University, Dr.Grant DAWSON, Principal Legal Officer, Office of the Legal Adviser, OPCW and senior officials from the NAJ made presentations on the OPCW’s mission and NAJ’s role under the CWC. In the second part at the Chemical School, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF), the participants attended a briefing on the mission and operations of the School, and observed its equipment as well as demonstrations against Nuclear, Biological and Chemical weapons.

NAJ is working to strengthen domestic institutional capacity to meet Japan’s the obligations under the CWC and to deepen cooperation with the international community towards the realization of a world free of chemical weapons.
